As we close the pages of 2019 and embark on a new year, I will get out my family vision to recall God’s faithfulness to us and measure our fidelity to his plan for our family.  The ritual fills me with humility and gratitude; it leads me forward in hope and great expectations for all that God has in store for us in the year to come.  The moment also produces sorrow and repentance, as I realize the many ways in which I have acted unjustly and neglected the pursuit of justice.  I have treated God and others worse than they deserve.  That’s injustice.  The greater respect and honor deserved, and the less we show, the greater the injustice.

The solution to injustices in my heart and in our world is not religious ritual, activity and fervor.  No!  God hates alleged devotion devoid of the pursuit of justice. The cure for the neglect and mistreatment of others and God is to seek to have them take their proper place in my life and in our world.  While recently meditating on a passage of Scripture written by Amos, a farmer from a small town near Bethlehem in the mid 8th century B.C., I was reminded of how strongly God feels about the pursuit of justice, and thankful for the privilege of seeking justice for others with our Keist Thurston O’Brien Law Firm team.  Amos writes as follows:

“I hate, I despise your religious feasts.  I cannot stand your assemblies.  Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them.  Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them.  Away with the noise of your songs.  I will not listen to the music of your harps.  But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never failing stream.”  Amos 5:21-25.

The purpose of KTO Law Firm is to seek justice.  We exist to diligently pursue justice for our clients.  If you were a client in 2019, thank you for the honor of allowing us to seek justice together this year.  May our pursuit of justice roll on like a river in 2020. May God ignite in all of us greater care for the injustices in our world, and May God grant us the wisdom and strength needed to right them. From all of us on the KTO Law Firm Team, Happy New Year!!!
